Privacy Policy — Horoufi (English)

Horoufi is an Arabic reading app for children. The app requires no sign-in, no account, and no personal information. All of a child's progress is stored only on the device. The only data that leaves the device is collected by the advertising network, and it identifies a device, not a person.

1. Who we are

2. What we collect: nothing, to us

The app uploads nothing to any server of ours. We operate no server that receives user data. There is no login, no account, no name, birthdate, email or phone number, no photos, contacts or location, and no leaderboard.

Stored locally on the device only: star count, letters completed, day streak and last-played date, ad-frequency counters, daily answer counts for the last 3 weeks, and — if the child uses “Read aloud” in the stories — recordings of the child reading (the latest per page). Recordings never leave the device and are never uploaded; parents can play and delete them in the Parent screen. Uninstalling the app erases all of it, as does the “Erase child's progress” button in the Parent screen.

3. What actually leaves the device

a. Advertising (Google AdMob). AdMob receives technical data including device identifiers, IP address, device type, OS and ad interactions. Because this app is child-directed, we enforce child settings with no exceptions: non-personalised ads only, no remarketing or behavioural targeting, and a “G” maximum content rating. b. Lesson content updates. The app periodically checks GitHub and jsDelivr for a newer lesson file. The request carries no data about the child — it fetches a static public file — but, as with any internet request, those services see the device's IP address.

c. “Remove ads” (Google Play). The Parent screen — behind the parental gate — offers one optional one-time purchase that removes ads. Payment happens entirely inside Google Play: we never see payment details, names or emails; the app only learns whether ads were removed. Google keeps the purchase record on the parent's account like any store purchase.

4. Children's privacy

This app is directed to children and is handled under Google Play's Families policy and children's privacy laws such as COPPA. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or from anyone, since the app has no accounts. There is no field in which a child can enter any information about themselves, no chat, no sharing, no social links, and no purchases in the child's screens — the single optional purchase (“Remove ads”) is in the Parent screen behind the parental gate. All ad SDKs used are on Google's Families Self-Certified Ads SDKs list.

5. Parents' rights

Erase progress via Parent screen → Erase child's progress, or uninstall the app. Reset the advertising identifier via Android Settings → Privacy → Ads. We cannot delete a specific user's data on request because we never store any.

6. Permissions

These are all the permissions the app requests, read from the published app package itself — not from source code:

• INTERNET — requested by the app, for ads and lesson content updates
• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — added by Google's ads library, to check connectivity before requesting an ad
• WAKE_LOCK — added by a Google measurement library bundled with the ads library
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE — added by the WorkManager scheduling library the ads library depends on
• RECORD_AUDIO — requested by the app for “Read aloud”: the child records themselves reading a story and hears it back. The phone asks before the first recording, the microphone is only on while the child holds a recording, and recordings stay on the device
• com.android.vending.BILLING — added by Google Play's billing library, for “Remove ads” in the Parent screen only

We deliberately removed the advertising ID permission (AD_ID) and the Privacy Sandbox ad permissions that the ads library adds automatically, as Google Play's Families policy requires for apps directed to children. All learning works fully offline. No camera, location, contacts or file access; the microphone is used only for the recording feature above.

7. Retention

We retain nothing because we receive nothing. On-device data persists until you erase it. Data collected by Google is subject to Google's own retention periods.

8. Changes

If what is collected changes, we will update this page and the date above, and note any material change in the Google Play release notes.
